Counting bedsits and family flats on the same stair

On many Georgian walk-ups, and on some converted houses near Bethlehem, a family flat shares a stair with rooms let by the week. An empty family flat is a different event: longer search, different furniture, different neighbours. An empty bedsit may let in days if the stair is already known for that use.

Unit mix therefore belongs in the occupancy table, not in a footnote. We will not describe a stair as “mostly full” if the only empty door is the three-room flat. The reading names the door.

When files mix both uses under one unit type, the numbering call is where we stop and ask. Guessing the mix is how occupancy readings become fiction.
